The past 12 months have been hard on Port Aransas, particularly the past four-and-a-half months since Hurricane Harvey turned the town upside down the night of Friday, Aug. 25.

Even in addition to Harvey, the year has been eventful. We celebrated achievements, moved the town forward, mourned the loss of some of our best citizens, and, finally pulled, and continue to pull, together to overcome the devastation wrought by the category 4 hurricane.

In the waning days of December, we culled the 2017 editions of the South Jetty to bring you the top stories to help put the year in perspective. Hurricane Harvey, without a doubt, remains the top story of 2017. See pages 6A-14A for more on Hurricane Harvey and other top stories of the year that moved us forward, changed or re-arranged us.
