Golf team has right to be proud

Marlin golfers returned home from Kingsville on Monday, March 6, with the right to do some bragging.

While the girls finished fifth in the Kingsville High School Tournament and Kelsey Ortiz finished fourth, they were playing against teams from 4A and 5A schools. Further, of the 11 other teams at Kingsville, three were from District 31 – and the Marlin golfers beat all those teams.

“I was very pleased with how our kids played and how they competed with the larger schools,” coach Steve Reaves reported. “We posted our lowest team total that we have posted since I’ve been here.”

Reaves added that the day wasn’t a good one for golf: “It rained on and off all day and the wind blew about 20 miles an hour. The course hadn’t been mowed for several days because of the weather, so the grass was long, even in the fairways.” Scores from the tournament: Boys
