It’s nail-biting time.
The Lady Marlins still didn’t know whether they’d make the playoffs at press time for this edition of the South Jetty.
Whether they would or not depended upon the outcome of their game against Woodsboro on Tuesday, Feb. 7, and the outcome of other teams’ games coming up. (That game was played after deadline for this edition of the South Jetty. Check out the newspaper’s website, www.portasouthjetty.com, for updates.)
As of Monday, Feb. 6, the Lady Marlins were tied with Three Rivers for fourth place in district. Skidmore was No. 1, Kenedy was No. 2 and Yorktown was in third place.
Only the top four teams would get into the playoffs.
If the Lady Marlins end up in a tie for fourth place with another team, they will play against that team to break the tie. If three teams end up in a tie for fourth place, those teams will compete with each other in a tournament.
No dates or locations have been determined for tie breakers.

In their most recent two games, the Lady Marlins beat Refugio, 40-27, then lost to Skidmore, 46-32.
In the Refugio game, played on Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Port Aransas girls started quick, but their opponents got back into the game in the second quarter. The Lady Marlins were up by only 3 at halftime.
Heeding their coach’s advice, the Port A girls did a good job of rebounding, and that made a big difference as they surged ahead in the third quarter.
“I thought it was a complete team victory,” said coach Stephanie Cowen.

In the Feb. 3 Skidmore game, the Lady Marlins fell behind 20 points at one point but battled back, attacking the rim and scoring points.
“Once we got aggressive, we saw good things result,” Cowen said.
It was a tough loss, but the coach said she was proud of her players’ efforts.
“I was very pleased that they didn’t let things snowball,” she said.
