Fog doesn’t stop anglers in Port A

Despite dense fog this week, folks are still going out and catching grouper, redfish and black drum, according to those who work at waterfront businesses in Port Aransas.

Anglers fishing from the Dolphin Express have been reeling in kingfish, vermilion snapper and grouper on eight-hour trips, said Cathy Kelsey, an employee at Dolphin Dock.

Those fishing on four-hour trips have been hooking redfish and black drum in the morning, while others fishing in the afternoon have been reeling in sheepshead and black drum, she said.

People fishing on long-range offshore trips have been bringing in blackfin and yellowfin tuna recently, Kelsey said.

Over at Fisherman’s Wharf, word is that folks have been catching barracuda, wahoo, yellowfin and blackfin tuna on long-range offshore trips, said Nichole Evans, an employee.

Anglers also have been reeling in rainbow runner, shark and scamp grouper on the 56-hour trips offshore, she said.

Kingfish have been biting for those fishing on 11-hour trips, Evans said.

On San Jose Island, people have been bringing in sheepshead, trout and redfish upon returning on the Jetty Boat, she said.

Sharon Keehlisen, an employee at Woody’s Sports Center, said anglers have been catching redfish near the Lydia Ann Lighthouse recently.

Black drum have been biting for folks fishing in the flats and around Island Moorings, she said.

People fishing from the south jetty have been reeling in sheepshead, while those fishing from the edge of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel have been bringing in speckled trout.

According to a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department fishing report, anglers have been catching redfish and sand trout in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel.

Sheepshead have been biting for those fishing from the south jetty, the report noted.
