Volunteers are needed to help with the Keep Port Aransas Beautiful 2022 Fall Adopt-a-Beach cleanup set for Saturday, Sept. 17.
The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers are encouraged to register online at www.texasadoptabeach.org/.
Onsite registration also is available.
Volunteers for the Port Aransas cleanup should report to Avenue G at the beach around 8:30 a.m. to check in, sign a release and be assigned an area to clean. They will be given trash bags, disposable gloves, data cards and pencils.
All involved are encouraged to wear sunscreen, bug repellent, a cap or hat and closed-toe shoes and bring plenty of drinking water.
“Since our first cleanup in 1986, more than 551,000 Texas Adopt-A-Beach volunteers have picked up nearly 10,000 tons of trash from Texas beaches, some of it originating from as far away as South America,” said a press release from the GLO.
“Due to tide patterns in the Gulf of Mexico, trash dumped anywhere in the Gulf is likely to end up on a Texas beach,” it said.
The data collected on the app or on data cards has been instrumental in the passage of international treaties and laws aimed at reducing the amount of offshore dumping, according to the release.
