Express your creativity at art center classes in July

Looking for a way to be creative during the hot summer days?

The folks at the Port Aransas Art Center have scheduled some new classes for July.

Yoga with Kaleigh

Each Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., stop by the art center and take a yoga class to improve strength, balance and flexibility while surrounded by the artwork in the gallery. Certified yoga instructor and artist Kaleigh Glover will instruct the class while participants go at their own pace. Classes are set for July 14, 21 and 28. The cost is $25 per person per class.

Paint Party

Glover will lead participants in painting a Port Aransas scene while they sip on glasses of wine and kick back, relaxing island style, according to a press release from the art center.

Those who attend will take home a completed 11-by-16- inch painting at the end.

The class costs $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers.

Wine, Whine and Design

On Sunday, July 24, Greta Watkins will lead a class to paint a beachy scene step-by-step, from 5 to 7:30.

The art center will provide all the materials to complete a painting including a 16-by- 20-inch canvas, brushes, paints and wine glasses.

Participants may bring their beverages of choice and snacks to share while enjoying an evening of fun and creativity.

The cost of the class is a $40 donation to the art center building fund for members and $45 for nonmembers.

Express Your Inner Self Workshop

Sharen Chatterton and Karen Rester will facilitate the class on Wednesday, July 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“Let go of your everyday, accomplishing mind, so that those hidden parts of self can arise and open your heart to aspects of yourself through art,” said the release.

Chatterton and Rester will lead the class to express themselves through painting in various mediums.

Bring snacks, a sack lunch and beverages. The class costs $85 for members and $90 for nonmembers.

How to Take Better Photographs

On Friday, July 29, from 9 to 11 a.m., Port Aransas photographer and artist John Morris will share tips on how to get better shots no matter what camera is used.

The class will meet in the art center at 9 a.m. for some instruction and then head out to photograph landscapes and wildlife in Port Aransas.

The class costs $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers.

The art center hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.
