‘Ebby Scrooge’ auditions slated for Sunday 2 p.m. Stuff to do and see

Have your audition materials ready and come to the Port Aransas Community Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m., to try out for a part in the next play.

The production of “Ebby Scrooge, A Modern Christmas Carol,” will be Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 5 through 7, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2:30 p.m.

Salle Ellis of Bandera, a long-time community theater participant who has been involved in various theaters and productions for many years, is directing this modernized version of the Charles Dickens Christmas favorite.

The main character is Ebby Scrooge, a distant relative of Dickens’s Ebenezer Scrooge.

Ebby owns a restaurant, and like the original Scrooge, is mean and greedy. The play follows the original play’s theme including a Mrs. Cratchit, the long-suffering employee who works for Ebby, and the ghost of Marla, Ebby’s dead partner who comes to visit her.

Most of the parts are small with only a few lines to learn and the play would be a good opportunity for anyone who has thought about getting involved in community theater.

“The rehearsals are short, few lines to learn and some parts that are only singing in a group. This play is the perfect way to start in community theater, have fun and perform in front of friends,” Ellis said.

Kids should audition for the singing parts of the carolers.

Those auditioning must bring their own piece, a poem or play excerpt, which will show their stage presence, ability to project to the audience and enthusiasm.

Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons, and Ellis says the practices will be simple.

The theater is located at 2327 St. Hwy. 361.
