Cyclists Ken Dunton and Mike Firestone of Port Aransas plan to pedal their bicycles 180 miles in two days in a charity event to raise money for research on Multiple Sclerosis, or M.S.

They will join thousands of other cyclists in a ride from Houston to Austin April 12-13 as part of the MS 150 Bike Tour.

“We’re doing this because we want to provide support, financial and emotional, to people with multiple sclerosis,” Dunton said. “It’s a very debilitating disease … and we want to support medical research to find a cure.”

Funds raised by the cycling event go to help the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Dunton and Firestone will be part of Team Shell, composed of about 200 cyclists. Overall, about 12,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the ride.

Donations specifically associated with Dunton’s ride can be made by sending checks to: Ken Dunton, P.O. Box 212, Port Aransas, Tx., 78373.

Donations for Firestone’s ride should be sent to: Mike Firestone, P.O. Box 3045, Port Aransas, Tx., 78373.

Checks should be made payable to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
