Corpus Christi closes its beach access roads; Port A access roads remain openFree Access

Several beach access roads on Mustang Island and North Padre Island have been closed by the City of Corpus Christi to mitigate the threats posed by Tropical Storm Nicholas.
All beach access roads within the Port Aransas city limits remained open early this evening (Monday, Sept. 13), and Port Aransas City Manager Dave Parson said there were no plans to close them.

However, Port Aransas Mayor Charles Bujan did issue a proclamation that all beaches in the city are to be closed to overnight camping tonight. The beaches remain open to pedestrians and drivers, though high tides might make driving and walking there hazardous.

The City of Corpus Christi closed beach access roads 2, 3, 3A, Newport Pass Road, Zahn Road and Whitecap Boulevard.
Pedestrians will still be able to access the Corpus Christi beaches, according to a news release from the City of Corpus Christi on Monday, Sept. 13.
“Despite the decrease in rain accumulation, the storm continues to push water into the City’s beaches and beach access roadways,” the news release stated. “The (National Weather Service) is forecasting a two to four foot depth of floodwater on our beaches, making them hazardous for drivers. Currently, our beach driving lanes are underwater with surges up to the sand dunes and into many of the City’s access roads.”
