Concert cancelled; cruise, more slated




Days and nights are filled with things to do at the Joint Effort Leisure Ministries.

The PA Rockers concert scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 21, has been canceled due to one of the Rockers’ critical illness. All those who have purchased tickets may get a refund at the JELM office.

Folks will be taking a cruise on the Red Dragon Pirate ship on Friday, Feb. 20. The event will begin at noon with lunch and a pre-cruise show. Participants are encouraged to dress like pirates and a prize will be given for the best costume. The cost is $35 for the event, sign up and pay at the JELM office.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, doors will open at 10 a.m. for the annual JELM Art Show. Artists who wish to sell their works may rent table space for the event. At 11 a.m. Jeff Porter will demonstrate his carving techniques in an exhibition titled “Cottonwood Bark and Other Found Wood Carving.”

Ballots for the Winter Texan of the Year will be counted on Feb. 20. An announcement of the winner(s) name(s) will be made on Sunday, Feb. 22, at church services at Community Presbyterian Church. The Winter Texan of the Year award will be given at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the Pollock on Friday, Feb. 27 at noon. This luncheon is by invitation only and is held to honor all JELM volunteers for 2014-2015.

Judy and David Lund will talk about birds of Costa Rica at the 3L’s lunch on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The Lunds are the hosts on the Harbor Cruises from Deep Sea Headquarters.
