Greg Cartwright

A celebration of life for Greg Cartwright has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1, in Port Aransas.

The event will be held at the “cook shack” at Sea Shell Village Resort, 502 E. Ave. G. from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be open to anyone who’d like to come and tell a story about Cartwright.

A longtime Port Aransas resident, Cartwright was killed in a boat accident at San Jose Island on Sunday, Aug. 29. He was 60.

With his wife, Debi, Cartwright was the owner Texas Bathtub Refinisher for 30 years. He also was a veteran boat captain, experienced fisherman and father of one. A story about him will be in the Sept. 2 edition of the South Jetty.

Greg, along with Dan Parker, may as well have been another son of mine, joining my birth son Skip Rhudy. The missus and I loved both of those boys right alongside my son Skip. Greg and I often dived together while Skip and Dan surfed. Greg’s still that boy to me right now. Deepest condolences to his wife and children. I wish I could be there to express them in person. I know my son and Dan will be there feeling the same sorrow Mrs. Rhudy and I feel right now and will express it to Debi. God Bless you Greg and thank you for enriching my life.

I went to High School with Greg and he was a good friend during that time. We had a lot of laughs and teenage adventures. RIP my friend.

FISH WITH THE ANGELS MY FRIEND.
Listed below are my heart felt thoughts I placed on on Facebook. I truly loved this man and his family.

There are no words I can say or describe the loss of the genuine human being. My mind is still processing the loss of one my best friends (Greg Cartwright). He was truly, one of the kindest, thoughtful, and most gentle souls I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He took my brother out in his boat yesterday morning, then afterwards he and his wife Deb, stopped by our house just to check on me and my wife. They brought us a homemade apple pie. What most people don’t know is, Greg had been coming over to help me get up out of bed when I was to weak to get up. The first time he tried to pick me up, I said “Damn, Greg, I’m not a blue Marlin or amberjack”. He just laughed and said, I got you Trent. In all the years we knew each other, he never asked for anything. It was always what could he or Deb do for us. He was a wonderful husband to his Deb and father to his son Austin. I will miss you with all my heart my life long friend. Gods speed be with you to the new fishing holes you will surely fish, and may Angels hold your wife Deb and son tight with their wings. I love you my friend. Here’s your last Selfie with my brother, (Toots) taken yesterday on your boat.

Although I do not know the man, I have family who did and loved and appreciated him as a truly kind good man. I am so sorry for his death and pray for the folks who loved him and cared deeply for him that you find comfort. What an amazing person he must have been! Praying for a healing for the family’s heart.
