Varsity wins, 72-42 over the Warriors
The Port Aransas Marlins whipped the Highland Christian Warriors at Doyle Marek Gym in Port Aransas on Tuesday, Nov. 14.
The score was 72-42. It was the Marlins’ first non-scrimmage game of the season.
“Our hustle and intensity was good, but we made fundamental mistakes – defensive breakdowns,” said Marlins Coach Mark Spencer.
The defensive errors let up a lot by the fourth quarter. Overall, Spencer had to be happy with his team’s performance in the drubbing of hapless Highland.
Highlights included the Marlin team scoring eight 3-point buckets during the course of the game. Last season, the Marlins averaged only 1.7 such goals each game. The boys have been working this season to improve that average, Spencer said.
Marlins forward Matt White, a junior, scored two of the threepointers in the game with Highland Christian.
“I don’t think (Highland Christian players) were very intense,” White said. “They sort of sat back and let us shoot threes.”
Matt said the Marlin team was feeling good after the win.
“We’re pretty stoked about this year,” White said. “We feel pretty positive we’re going to the playoffs.”
