Coach Brian Flack notes that it’s the first time in the annals of baseball – the Marlins beat Falls City in Falls City.

In fact, the varsity Marlins made the victory a decisive one – 10-5 on Friday, March 26.

“The kids were ready and focused for the beginning of district play,” Flack said. “They played great team ball.”

Tyler Pate pitched five innings for the Marlins, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits. Pate struck out eight and walked two. Andrew Groseclose went two innings on the mound, allowing two hits and no runs. He struck out two and hit one batter with a pitch.

Alex Groseclose led the attack at the plate, going three for four and scoring two runs with one run batted in. Tanner Merrill and Kevin Sikes each went two for four, with Merrill scoring one run and batting in three, while Sikes scored two runs and batted in two base runners. Thomas Winton got one hit in one at-bat but walked twice and scored two runs. Andrew Groseclose and Mac Owens each got one hit in four trips to the plate; each also batted in one run.

The Marlins played one of their cleanest games this season, committing only one error.

The victory gives the Marlins a clean 1-0 district record and a 9-4 record overall.
