Folks from the Bimini Babe pose for a photo with a 654-pound blue marlin that the boat brought in to weigh at Fisherman’s Wharf in Port Aransas today. From left are Sean Swetman, mate, of Rockport; Joanna Steigleder, a guest, of Rockport; Floyd “Babe” Appling (seated), the boat owner, of Rockport; Robert Jones, captain, of Lake Jackson; Wes Appling, guest, of Rockport; and Charles Abbott, first mate, of Rockport. Wes Appling battled the marlin for 2 1/2 hours before getting it to the boat. He said they had planned to release it, but it died before it got to the boat. Meat from the fish was donated to a church in Port O’Connor for meals.
