Beach run is October 4





Get some fresh air and sunshine while helping out the community Saturday, Oct. 4, at the 16th annual Port Aransas Sand and Surf Beach Run, benefiting the Joint Effort Leisure Ministry (JELM). It is sponsored by the Community Presbyterian Church.

This year’s run, starting at 8 a.m., includes a 5K run, a 10K run or a twomile walk, primarily on the beach in Port Aransas. The $17 registration fee includes a custom t-shirt designed by Judy Cole.

Other awards, designed with Port Aransas in mind, will be given to the top six men and women in the walk, according to age division (1 -70 or 71 and over) and to the top three men and women 5K and 10K runners in age divisions 13 and under, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-65, 66-70 and 71 and over.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. at the Port Aransas High School tennis courts. Runners may park in the high school parking lot. They will then be bused to the starting line on the beach.

Starting time is 8 a.m. and runners will end up back at the high school.

Registration and fees may be dropped off at the church office, 113 S. Alister St., from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, or Friday from 9 a.m. to noon

Registration may also be completed as late as 7:30 a.m. the day of the race.

The JELM Center is located behind the Community Presbyterian Church office at 113 S. Alister. All activities are open to the public.

JELM is operated by volunteers from Community Presbyterian Church (the umbrella under which the center operates), and volunteer Winter Texans. The center offers a variety of activities, trips, entertainment, as well as health and fitness programs from mid-October through March.
