Bathing beauties then, and now

The young women in the photo in the background were those who rode on the Port Aransas float in the summer of 1954 to represent the ‘Tarpon Capital of the World’ at the San Antonio Fiesta Parade. The float won first place for out of town floats. All but two gathered last week at Snoopy’s Pier on North Padre Island where the photo hangs. The missing two, in the photo from left, are the late Betty Lee Brown and Marie Ousley Stiewig. Seated in front of the photo in the same order they appear in the 1954 photo are, from Stiewig’s left, Jenevieve Curry Spears of Aransas Pass, Donna Mae Farley Blanachard of Baton Rouge, La., Ivah Jean Hicks Mircovich of Aransas Pass, Billie Jo Sims Harvey of San Antonio, Nona Beth Moore Sherrill of Corpus Christi and Harolene Lister Hadden of Woodsboro. Many will be here for the Centennial Celebration on Saturday, Oct. 16.
