Auditions on Saturday for ‘A Month of Sundays’

Port Aransas Community Theatre

The Port Aransas Community Theatre is seeking three men and three women to fill roles in the September production of “A Month of Sundays.”

Auditions will be held at the theatre, 2327 State Hwy. 361, on Saturday, July 30, at 6 p.m.

Roles for two strong gentlemen over the age of 60, a lady and gentleman to play a couple in their 30s to 50s, a woman to play a 40 to 50-year old housekeeper and an actress in her 20s to play a nurse are all available.

Those auditioning will read from the playbook and must be able to understand basic stage direction.

Rehearsals are typically held three to five nights, or days, per week but could be more as the rehearsal time on this play is only six weeks.

The comedy, directed by Ginny Shaw and assistant director Dave Beane, revolves around two elderly gentlemen in a nursing home, one of whom voluntarily left his family to avoid the indignity of depending on them. Both men are on the verge of some geriatric embarrassment and respond to the painful ritual of Sunday family visits with humor and wit, aware that life can only be endured if treated as a comedy.

Performances are scheduled to run two or three Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. with one or two Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. The final performance schedule will be determined by the director as the play rehearsals progress.
