Overheard on the rocks at Roberts Point Park on a recent day: Pelican One: I’m tired of sitting around the jetty, waiting for handouts. It’s Mardi Gras, guys! Let’s do something! Let’s party somewhere! Hey, I think I see some action to the east, toward the Gulf. Let’s head that way! Pelican Two: No, let’s go west! I see a flock of white pelicans flying that way. They always know where the good parties are! Pelican Three: Will you guys shut up? I’m trying to get some shut-eye, here. I’ve got to get rested for the Mardi Gras Parade (Tuesday, Feb. 21)and Whooping Crane Festival here (Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 23-26. See stories, Pages 2A and Page 14A, respectively.)
