South Jetty reporter Dan Parker holds the Feb. 7 issue of the Washington Post, the front page of which carried a photo Parker shot while recently freelancing for the Post. The photo ran with a package of investigative Post stories showing that 33 members of Congress had directed more than $300 million in earmarks and other spending provisions to many public projects near the lawmakers’ own properties. Parker’s photo depicted a street and neighboring properties in the Rio Grande Valley town of Mercedes. The street has been targeted for improvements funded by an earmark.
