PAISD offers free and reduced-price meals

Port Aransas ISD will be offering free, reduced-price lunches for those who qualify during the 2017-2018 school year.

Applications will be included in back-to-school takehome folders when school starts on Monday, Aug. 21.

Parents also can pick forms up at the cafeteria, administration building or school offices.

Completed applications must be turned into PAISD Child Nutrition Director Renee Hillis or the school secretary.

Criteria for free and reduced price meals include:

Income

•Household income that is at or below the income-eligibility levels.

Categorical or Automatic Eligibility

•Household receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

Program Participant

•Child’s status as a foster child, homeless, runaway, migrant or displaced by a declared disaster.

Child’s enrollment in Head Start or Even Start.

Notifications coming

•Port Aransas ISD is working with local agencies to identify children who are eligible for the program. Those households will be notified by the district that they do not need to complete an application. Any household that is not contacted by Port Aransas ISD and feels it should have been is asked to contact Hillis.

Households that wish to decline benefits also should contact Hillis at 749-1220.

Applications must list names of all household members, the amount, frequency and source of current income for each household member and the last four digits of a Social Security number of the adult who signs the application.

The applications contain income-eligibility charts for families from one to 12.

Kiosk

Hillis said with the success of a breakfast kiosk that was added in 2016-2017, a new lunch kiosk will be available for high school students. The kiosk will offer wraps, chef salads and sandwich combo plates.
