The Cody Wayne Band will bring its high-energy red-dirt music to the Patsy Jones Amphitheater in Roberts Point Park beginning at 7 p.m.

The band plays both original red dirt and classic country music as well as cover tunes from Hank Williams Jr., Garth Brooks, the Zac Brown Band and more.

Wayne, who plays acoustic guitar and sings, got his start in music as a Marine while stationed in Iwakumi, Japan.

His band members include Bill Rasnake on drums, Victor Szeligowski on fiddle and Brandon Pinkerton on bass.

The band has received five nominations for the Texas Country Music Association Awards set for Thursday, Sept. 28.

Wayne is nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. The band was nominated for Country Group of the Year as well as a Single of the Year nomination for “Fly High.” Rasnake was nominated as Drummer of the Year.

Pack a picnic, bring your blankets and lawn chairs and plan to spend the evening enjoying live music beside the ship channel as the sun sets.

There is plenty of room in the park to spread out, dance and for the kids to play.

A play structure is within site of the music venue.

Friendly dogs are welcome at the event as well if they are leashed and folks clean up anything they leave behind.

The City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the free monthly concerts April through October.

The James Little Band will play at the Sept. 8 concert.
