Cause of death unknown after man was found floating

The cause of death of a man who was found floating, unconscious, at the beach in Port Aransas won’t be known until toxicology tests are done.

Magdaleno Arias, 62, of San Antonio, pulled to shore near Mile Marker 38 on Tuesday, Aug. 8, according to Scott Burroughs, chief of the Port Aransas Police Department.

People on the beach who found Arias attempted CPR until PAPD and ambulance workers arrived, Burroughs said.

Arias was then taken to Corpus Christi Medical Center – The Heart Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the same day, according to Hugo Stimmler, a medical examiner with the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s office.

Toxicology tests take up to a month, Stimmler said.
