Auditions set

Try out for ‘Disney the Lion King Jr.’

“Disney the Lion King Jr.” will return to the Port Aransas Community Theatre stage this summer.

“Bringing the production back just seems like the right thing to do,” said Darlene Secich, theater manager.

“The production generated so much support and pride for our community that we thought it would be a perfect production for those that are visiting Port Aransas over the summer to attend,” she said.

Kids in ninth grade and younger are invited to try-out for parts in the musical production on Wednesday, May 31, and Thursday, June 1, at 6:30 p.m. Call backs will be scheduled if necessary.

Numerous parts will be available including many featured roles.

Older students will be needed for stage manager, props and tech room.

Ken Yarbrough, who directed the musical earlier in the year, will return as director along with several other former production team members.

Those who come to the audition should be prepared to sing a portion of one of the following songs from “Disney the Lion King Jr.”: “Be Prepared,” “I Just Can’t Wait to be King,” “Hakuna Matata” or “They Live in You.”

Accompaniment will be provided.

Students should be prepared to read for the following characters: Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Rafiki, Scar or Zazu.

Those who audition should wear loose-fitting clothes and be prepared to learn 12 bars of choreography.

No open-toed shoes will be allowed.

Audition sides, vocal assistance and more can be found on the PACT website at www.portaransascommunitytheatre.com.

Rehearsals will begin on Monday, June 5. A comprehensive rehearsal schedule will be given at the first read-through.

“Summer vacations and other commitments will be taken into consideration, so everyone should audition,” said Yarbrough.

Performances are set for Thursday through Sunday, July 20 through Aug. 6, for a total of 12 shows.
