Donate to VFW Care and Share fund at checkout through the end of May

Members of the Moore- McDonald Post 8967 are starting their fundraising for the annual Care and Share Christmas Dinner benefit a little early this year.

Beginning Friday, May 19, through the end of the month, folks can make monetary donations to the fund when they check out at the Family Center IGA.

Just add a few extra dollars to your bill, and all money raised will go to the Care and Share fund.

The post provided 96 Port Aransas families with Christmas breakfasts and dinners in 2016. The post spent more than $7,300 to provide these meal boxes, in addition to what the public donated to the effort.

“Our funds for the annual event are almost depleted,” said C.D. McCabe, commander of the Moore-Mc- Donald VFW Post 8967.

The post does not just help with veteran issues. The members are active in the Port Aransas community and help with many other charities and events throughout the year.

Those include, donating to the Helping Hands Food Pantry, contributing to the Emergency Services Toy Roundup, providing scholarships to graduating Port Aransas High School seniors, holding classes on flag etiquette for youth, helping with monetary needs of the PAISD nurses fund, providing emergency food, clothing and housing, hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for the community, providing dinner to the Coast Guard Station Port Aransas once a month and much more.

The VFW ask that each time you check out through the end of May, give a little extra for the fundraiser.

McCabe said that every little bit helps.
