McNeely to retire at end of school year

Port Aransas High School will have a new principal when classes start in August for the 2017-18 school year.

Principal since August 2015, Scott McNeely will retire at the end of this school year, according to Port Aransas ISD Superintendent Sharon McKinney. His resignation was accepted at a meeting of the board of trustees on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

McNeely signed a two-year contract starting with the 2015-16 school year after McKinney, who had been principal at the high school, was promoted to associate superintendent to train under then-Superintendent Wayne Johnson. An educator and administrator with the Aransas County ISD in Rockport, McNeely came out of retirement in 2011 to become an interim administrator at Rockport Fulton High School and Live Oak Elementary School.

McKinney said the position is being advertised on the district’s website, through the Regional Education Service Center in Corpus Christi and the Texas Association of School Administrators.

Remaining administrators in the district were awarded two-year contracts when trustees came out of an executive session. They are Carol Sue Hipp, executive director of business operations; Gina McKeever, principal at H.G. Olsen Elementary School; James Garrett, principal at Brundrett Middle School; and Steve Reaves, athletic director.
