Anticipated visitor

Staff photo by Dan Parker Staff photo by Dan Parker A crowd of spectators at the south jetty gawked as the Noble Danny Adkins was towed into Port Aransas waters from the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, Feb. 8. The towering offshore drilling rig was put in storage at the Gulf Copper facility on Harbor Island. Port Aransas residents and visitors and folks on the World Wide Web showed a lot of interest in the spectacle of a structure as big as the Adkins being moved slowly and carefully through local waterways. A few hundred folks showed up at the south jetty to watch. A South Jetty staff photo of the scene generated more than 1 million views on Facebook within a few days. (More photos are on Page 6A. Video is on this newspaper’s website, www.portasouthjetty.com.)
