PAEF donates $3,000 for schools’ softball scoreboard

The Port Aransas Education Foundation has donated $3,000 to help toward the purchase and installation of a scoreboard honoring the late Karen Hall.

The scoreboard will be at the Paul Matthews Softball Field on the corner of Beach and Station streets and will be ready for the first home softball game, according to Superintendent Dr. Sharon Doughty.

Hall was the first Lady Marlins softball team coach, and died unexpectedly Aug. 22 at the age of 56.

The project, estimated at $31,270 as of Oct. 17, is included in the $3.5 million bond project that was passed in May.

The quote also includes the addition of two 20-foot flagpoles in Hall’s honor that a group of Hall’s friends have volunteered to raise money for. For those interested in donating, an account has been set up at American Bank, 216 S. Alister St.

“We are very, very grateful to the Port Aransas Education Foundation for their donation to the softball field scoreboard project,” Doughty said.
