Marlins roll over Runge

STAFF PHOTO BY KAREN COLLINS The Marlin baseball team went to Runge on Tuesday, April 3, and returned home with a 9-5 win and preserved their third- place position among Texas 1A baseball teams.
The vote was from members of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, and was posted on Thursday, April 5.
John Amundsen was the Marlins starting pitcher, going two innings and striking out two while walking three. He allowed one hit and no runs.
Caleb Rogers took over for three innings and gained the win, allowing three hits and five runs, two of which were earned. Rogers struck out four batters.
Andrew Groseclose polished off the Yellowjackets in the final two innings, allowing no hits and no runs while walking one and striking out three.
At the plate, Nick Maxham tripled in his only time at bat, bringing in three runs with one swat. Rogers was three for four with one RBI; he scored three runs himself.
Andrew Follett and Blue Shodrock both went .666 with two hits in three at-bats, while Tyler Pate was two for four and three RBIs. Jake Roberts and Amundsen each went one for three, with Roberts picking up an RBI and scoring twice.
The Marlins scattered their scoring among five innings, relaxing in the sixth and seventh frames. They totaled 12 hits with only two errors.
