Marie Carlson died on Saturday, March 31, 2012 in Plano.
Services will be held at Trinity by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Port Aransas on Saturday, April 14, at 2 p.m.
Carl- son was born March 24, 1928, in Michig a n . After graduating from high school in Mineral Wells, she attended Tulane University and graduated from nursing school in Dallas.
In 1949, she married Dr. Richard Hermes and moved to Lawrence, Kan. They had four children.
As a registered nurse she worked in a variety of settings, generally as director of nursing for facilities in Lawrence and Topeka, Kan. In Texas she worked in Mineral Wells, Plainview, Lubbock and the Dallas metro area. She also worked as the director of an adult day center and for the State of Texas as a facility investigator.
After retirement she moved to Port Aransas, where she met her second husband, Dr. Gerry Carlson.
They traveled around the U. S. and several areas of the world.
The Carlsons were members of a canoeing club, and she enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening and reading, as well as volunteering in schools, libraries and her church. She became a deaconess in the Episcopal church.
She is survived by daughter Penny Amyx of Topeka, Kan; son Peter Hermes of Bonita Springs, Fla.; daughter Patricia Freeman of Costa Mesa, Calif.; daughter Pamela (Kenneth) Terrones of Plano; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters or the charity of your choice.
