Toss junk during city’s ‘spring cleaning’ event

Start your spring cleaning Saturday, April 14, with the help of Keep Port Aransas Beautiful (KPAB), the City of Port Aransas and Republic Services (Allied Waste).

The three are partnering for their annual spring clean-up, which gives residents an opportunity to haul trash to the city transfer station for disposal at no charge.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

No construction materials, tires or hazardous waste will be accepted. In addition, no sheet rock, drywall or roofing shingles will be accepted. Paint, freon, anti-freeze and other dangerous fluids also are excluded.

Volunteers are being sought for the event as well. About eight to 10 folks are needed to help unload the pickups and cars. Contact Dave Srader, chairman of the event, at (361) 332-6390 to help.

KPAB scheduled the event to participate as a part of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup, a program in which affiliates across the country hold cleanup and beautification projects from March to May each year.

KPAB is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote public interest to create a cleaner, more beautiful Port Aransas through volunteerism and education.

The organization focuses on litter reduction, beautification and community improvement, to reduce/reuse/ recycle/rebuy and provides environmental education.
