New sign
Jerry McDonald field has a new sign, erected on Saturday, April 7. Several Port Aransans and Port Aransas businesses helped make the sign’s construction happen by providing materials and services for free or at discounts to the Port Aransas Softball Association. Some of those responsible include, from right, Elbert Gillespie, Tom Dasch (who owns a contracting firm and paid his crew to build it), Stephen Barron and Jon Michael Gillespie. At left is Butch Findley, representing the softball association. Also helping out were Texas Sign Express and Zarsky Lumber. Jerry McDonald Field was named after the only Port Aransan who died in the Vietnam War. The Port Aransas Softball Association begins men’s league play at the field tonight, Thursday, April 12.
