A group of fifth graders has been nominated by their teachers to attend a Lone Star Leadership summer program in Austin and San Antonio.

In the week-long program they will get to visit the state capitol, the state Supreme Court, several museums, the Alamo and the Institute of Texan Cultures. In addition they will participate in bat watching and nature hikes.

The cost is $865 per student, and the kids have pledged to raise the money.

Bake sales are being held at Family Center IGA on Saturday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to noon, and on Friday, April 13, from 4 p.m. until they sell out or IGA closes.

During these bake sales they also will be selling tickets to win a 75-quart YETI cooler, which retails for $400.

Tickets are $10 each or five for $40. The drawing will be after the close of the bake sale on Friday, April 13.
