Middle school Marlins say district is a success
Flying high Tyler Pate of the Port Aransas High School Marlins track team wins the high jump competition with a jump of six feet two inches during a meet at Ben Bolt March 31.
STAFF PHOTO BY MARNIE PATE The district middle school track meet, scheduled for March 29, was moved at the last minute from Kenedy to Charlotte because of heavy rains the day before at Kenedy. Brundrett Middle School coach Javier Mendoza got the call at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28.
“The kids competed well, and we were pretty successful in our events,” Mendoza said. “We brought back a lot of medals and ribbons. The down side was that some kids got sick and others injured themselves in the earlier events. Overall, we had a great year, and our kids represented our school very well.”
Mendoza said the bus pulled back into the Port Aransas ISD parking lot at 1:25 a.m. after the district event.
“To the credit of our kids, every one of them made it to school on time the next morning,” he said.
The winner Brundrett Middle School seventh grader, Lauren Hernandez, wins the 800 meter run at the district track meet in Charlotte on March 29.
