JV Marlins defeat Kingsville, Falls City

The junior varsity Marlins played two baseball games in a week, scoring a total of more than 30 runs and defeating Pan American- Presbyterian Kingsville in Kingsville (23-0) and Falls City at home (8-2).

The Marlins pounded out the hits against the Pan American squad, scoring 13 runs in the second inning ( and that with two outs) and five each in the first and third. The game ended after the third inning.

“Dan Campbell pitched three perfect innings and struck out seven,” coach Joe Kocurek said. “Offensively, Tyler Collier, Dan Campbell, Thomas Forsberg, Hunter Roos, Blake Goodwin, and Ryan Zollars all had multiple hits.”

Returning home on Friday, the JV preceded the varsity game with its own trimming of the Falls City Badgers.

The Marlins gave up a two- run advantage in the first frame, but came back to score in each of the next four innings while holding Falls City scoreless.

Nick Maxham started on the mound for the junior Marlins, with Christian Johnson taking over later in the game. Maxham, whose pitching was characterized as “tough” by Kocurek, is credited with the win.

The Marlins were led in batting by Austin Scott, Johnson and Ryan Zollars.
