PAHS first in district UIL meet

STAFF PHOTO BY MARNIE PATE Port Aransas scholars once again brought the first-place trophy home from the District 31A UIL meet, trouncing second-place Woodsboro at the district competition in Woodsboro on Wednesday, March 21, and Friday, March 23.
The Marlins racked up 602 points to win first. Second place totaled 286 points.
Of the 37 Port Aransas students who went to the district meet, 21 will go on to the regional competition in Brenham on Friday, April 20. To qualify for that, they had to place in the top three individually or be members of a first-place team.

Computer applications – Ty Morris, second; Jason Morris, fourth; Paul Voyles, sixth.
Current issues – Team, first; Shea Rogers, first; Elliott Morris, second. Hannah Ferguson Johns and Mary McCann completed the firstplace team.
Lincoln-Douglas debate – Michelle Arnold, first; Tori Bradley, fourth.
Number sense – Hudson Marraro, second.
Ready writing – Fallon Zollars, first; Chris Eggleston, second; Becca Honeck, third.
Calculator applications – Jessica Borden, third.
Prose interpretation – Aaron Kenigsberg, first; Shelby Stephenson, third.
Poetry interpretation – Taylor Griffin, first; Morgan Milligan, fourth.
Spelling – Milligan, fifth.
Science – Team, first; Jenna Ward, first and top physics; Eggleston, second; Johns, third; Marraro, fourth and top chemistry; Ty Morris, fifth.
Literary criticism – Team, first; Samantha Falconer, first; Zollars, second; Rogers, third. McCann completed the first place team.
