Participating in a club that is devoted to the welfare of our student body can be challenging at times, but it’s because of this difficulty that our members employ innovative methods when giving back to their peers.
Now, the Port Aransas High School Student Council happens to consist of some of the most outgoing students our school has to offer, which makes event planning a bit easier. In addition, these students know exactly what sort of student behavior to reward. Some of the behavior that we look to reward and even promote includes academic excellence, healthy student interaction and artistic expression.
In this past year, the student council has rewarded both the high school A and A- B Honor Roll students with a pizza party, which was aimed at praising their academic achievement. This resonated extremely well with the Port Aransas students, who thought it to be a spectacular idea. Many of the students appreciated the fact that their peers actually cared about the hard work and time they had invested in making those grades.
Toward Christmas break, the student council threw the much-anticipated talent show. We put this event on every year in hopes of enabling students to express their artistic nature, whether it be singing, dancing, playing guitar or offering a standup comedy routine. We even offered prizes to the top three acts, which helped to spark more student involvement.
Every year, the talent show is met with tons of enthusiasm and anticipation by students and teachers alike.
Later in the year, the student council hosted the annual Homecoming dance, which encouraged social interaction outside of school. Within the first hour, our dance floor was buzzing with life as students left their seats and found dance partners who were ready to set their feet on fire. Though this is only a sliver of what the student council does year around, our support and respect for the student body carries on daily.
