Sand sculpting lessons offered Saturday, April 14

Free sand sculpting lessons will be offered at Lesson Mountain on Saturday, April 14.

Lesson Mountain is the warm-up to the 16th annual Texas SandFest, scheduled for April 20-22. It features competition for master sculptors as well as amateurs of all ages.

Lesson Mountain is on the beach between Sandcastle Drive and Beach Access Road 1A, about one mile south of Horace Caldwell Pier. Look for the “mountain” of sand.

Lesson Mountain is a public event where anyone with the desire to participate may learn the art of sand sculpting. All they need to do is show up on the beach with a few tools, ready to learn and get sandy. Sculptors of all ages are invited.

Steve Zarych and Chip Cooper, along with other volunteers, will teach novices the tricks and secrets of the trade.

Participants should bring their own tools from home. Almost anything can be used: Straws, trowels, spatulas, small shovels or spades, chopsticks, spoons and, of course, buckets. Buckets are provided, but may be brought from home as well.
