STAFF PHOTO BY DAN PARKER The Port Aransas High School entry in the UIL one-act play competition has advanced to the district level.
The district competition is set for Saturday, March 24, at Refugio High School. The Port Aransas performance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The play, Cinderella Waltz, garnered All Star Cast medals for Aaron Kenigsberg, Shelby Stephenson, Emma Shannon, Corban Marcantel and Mamta Patel.
Honorable Mention medals went to Jenna Ward and Michelle Arnold.
Port Aransas High School principal Sharon McKinney said this year is the first time “in years” that the Port Aransas play has advanced beyond the zone level.
The play is a spoof of the traditional Cinderella story; it features an off-the- wall dysfunctional family, magical fairy godmothers that pop out of a well, whimsical trolls and a goofy but lovable prince. Kenigsberg plays Zed, the village idiot; Stephenson is the Cinderella-like Rosey Snow; Arnold plays the evil stepmother, Mother Snow; Ward is Goneril, a stepsister; Hazel Morris is the second stepsister, Regan; Shannon plays a troll; Marcantel is Prince Alf; Elliott Morris is Father Snow and Patel is the fairy godmother, Mother Magee.
The production is staged by Morgan Milligan, stage manager; Mary McCann, sound; Genevieve Powers on lights and Emily Klein as stagehand. Danny Reyes is the Port Aransas High School drama coach.
