JV girls are learning new field positions
A junior varsity softball game at home against Aransas Pass meant new positions on the diamond for some of the Lady Marlins, so they were learning, coaches said.
The 3A Lady Panthers handed the Port Aransas girls a 5-14 defeat.
“The main goal is to get these girls on the field, so they can experience game situations,” said varsity softball coach Steve Reaves.
“Several of the girls got on base for the first time,” JV coach Christine Kreutziger. “They all learned something new about the game, and had a great time.”
Sadie Guillot, who pitched her first game ever, struck out a batter, fielded a hard-hit ball and threw a runner out at first, Kreutziger said.
She commended Samantha Richardson for a bunt to get to first base and then a stolen second base on the next pitch.
“She said she was excited to practice her running skills, so she can use them in varsity games,” Kreutziger said.
Genevieve Powers assisted in several outs, Kreutziger said, as well as hitting a single that brought in a run.
All the JV Lady Marlins are looking forward to the next game, coaches agreed.
No box score was available for the game.
