Bad innings, errors lead to Lady Marlins’ loss to Aransas Pass

“A couple of bad innings caused by errors led to all the runs,” said coach Steve Reaves of the Lady Marlins’ game against Aransas Pass here on Tuesday, March 6.

The ladies ended up on the short end of the 0-7 final score.

“We did quite a few things right, but you can’t afford to give a good team extra outs in an inning,” Reaves said.

He said the ladies also must do a better job of hitting, not relying totally on Savanna Ortiz, who he called “one of the top pitchers in South Texas.”

“Right now, we’re striking out too much,” Reaves said.

Missy Gilbreath was the Lady Marlins’ top offense, going two for three at the plate, including a double. Her only out was on a hard line drive to the second baseman.

Ortiz also got a hit, the Lady Marlins’ third, and only other, hit of the game.

Ortiz pitched a “solid game,” Reaves said. She struck out five and walked none while allowing four hits in seven innings.
