The chapel
Folks on a tour file into the Little Chapel on the Hill in July last year. The Port Aransas Museum will offer the next tours on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17.
The little chapel on the hill sits on the highest spot in old town Port Aransas, atop a sand dune 26 feet above the sea. It was conceived by and built for the sitting poet laureate of Texas, Aline Carter, in the 1930’s.
Inside, the chapel is decorated with frescoes covering the interior walls and ceiling which depict the history of Christianity. The paintings were done by Austin artist John Cobb.
Guests are invited to watch a newly produced video of the chapel history and an interview with the man who painted the ceiling at the museum.
