Workers do gas line work along 11th Street, not far from Beach Access Road 1A, on Thursday, March 1. It was part of a project to replace gas and water lines and install underground drainage throughout the length of 11th Street, plus rip out the road and replace it with a three-lane thoroughfare with a center turn lane. A sidewalk will run along one side of the road, and a concrete bike path will run along the other side. The project, which began in early February, is funded by a $6.4 million bond issue approved by Port Aransas voters in May last year. By contract, the firm of Island Construction has up to 20 months to finish the work.
