Work continues

STAFF PHOTO BY DAN PARKER STAFF PHOTO BY DAN PARKER Workers do gas line work along 11th Street, not far from Beach Access Road 1A, on Thursday, March 1. It was part of a project to replace gas and water lines and install underground drainage throughout the length of 11th Street, plus rip out the road and replace it with a three-lane thoroughfare with a center turn lane. A sidewalk will run along one side of the road, and a concrete bike path will run along the other side. The project, which began in early February, is funded by a $6.4 million bond issue approved by Port Aransas voters in May last year. By contract, the firm of Island Construction has up to 20 months to finish the work.
