Flag retirement set for Sunday at VFW

Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be part of a flag retirement ceremony at the Moore-Mc- Donald VFW Post 8967, 311 N. Alister St., on Sunday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m.

Attendees will learn several ways to properly retire a flag. The Girl and Boy Scouts will each demonstrate their rituals, then VFW members will demonstrate theirs.

About 250 to 300 flags will be retired, according to Ken Yeakel, a member of the VFW.

The pledge of allegiance will be recited and “Taps” will be played in between the scouts’ ceremonies and the final VFW burning.

The event will conclude with the raising of a new flag at the post home, accompanied by “To the Colors.”
