At Civic Center March 2
Afternoon delight The annual VFW Pork Dinner was a hit on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 18. Held at the Moore- McDonald VFW Post 8967 post home, also included a drawing for prizes, and auction and was followed by a dance. Here, volunteer Suzanne Booth, left, and an undentified helper serve plates of smoked pork and sides to a crowd that spilled out the door and around the building. How often can you meet a police officer, enjoy a good meal and help applaud some of the folks who have helped Port Aransas law enforcement?
Your chance will come Friday, March 2, at 6 p.m. at the Port Aransas Civic Center, when the Port Aransas Police Department’s annual recognition dinner begins. The catered dinner features lasagna, salad, garlic bread and dessert, and awards and recognitions will come afterward.
Dress is “island casual;” tickets, at $15 each or two for $25, are available at the police station, 705 W. Ave. A in Port Aransas. Table sponsorships at $125, also at the police station, get six seats plus two places for recipients.
Police Chief Scott Burroughs said the event not only lets the community recognize the officers’ good work, it also lets them meet each other in an informal, friendly setting.
“I think it is always healthy for the officers and the citizens to get to know each other on a personal level; and one of the best ways to know your neighbor is to sit down and break bread together” Burroughs said.
For more information on the event or to sponsor a table, call Sue Williams at the police department, 749- 6241.
