Mayer named finalist for teaching award
Statewide honor comes from H-E-B
Port Aransas High School teacher Melanie Mayer has been named one of eight Gulf coast-area educators who are finalists for a 2012 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. The announcement today, Tuesday, Feb. 28, spotlights her as one of the best educators in Texas.
Mayer was surprised when H-E-B and school district officials showed up in her classroom today to tell her about the award and present her with a bouquet of flowers and an outsize $1,000 check. (See the March 1 edition of the South Jetty for the full story.)
