Falls City proves too tough for BMS men

The Brundrett Middle School Marlins came back from Falls City on Thursday, Feb. 2, with two games in the loss column but, said coach Brian Flack, nothing to be ashamed of.

The eighth-graders fell behind early and never caught up, trailing 0-8 in the first quarter and 8-17 at the half. The final score was 24-38.

“We were just out played on Thursday,” Flack said. They were quicker, more physical, and less sloppy than us.”

However, he noted of the team, “We didn’t give up, though.”

The Marlins spread the scoring; Hank Brennan led with six and Camron Collins and Nathan Pahany each had four, but Devon Byrd, James Johnson, Jesse Marraro, Blake Roberson, James Johnson and Connally Waight put in two points apiece.

The eighth-grade Marlins have notched a district record of 5-2. The seventh-graders took an 8-7 lead at the half but weren’t able to hang onto it, losing in the end by only three points, 22-25.

Kyle Jones put in 10 for the Marlins, while Devin Pate hit five, Trout Lorette got four and Sam May hit three.

“The seventh grade, with a 4-2 record, finished second in the district behind Falls City,” Flack said. “They had a very successful year, and are looking forward to a great eighth grade year.”
