Falls City proves too tough for BMS men
     The Brundrett Middle School Marlins came back from Falls City on Thursday, Feb. 2, with two games in the loss column but, said coach Brian Flack, nothing to be ashamed of. The eighth-graders fell behind early and never caught up, trailing 0-8 in the first quarter and 8-17 at the half. The final score was 24-38.

Falls City gets best of BMS 8th grade girls
     The Brundrett Middle School Lady Marlins held the Beaverettes of Falls City to a low-scoring game on Thursday, Feb. 2, but couldn’t prevail as they lost, 12-23. Only one game, the eighthgrade game, was played by the girls. Sophia Marraro hit four points to lead the Brundrett girls. Lauren Hernandez, Ashley Mack, Aubrey Sergeant and Brittney Walker each put in two.

UIL realignment will make it a new ball game
Agua Dulce, Ben Bolt, Benavides, Premont, Woodsboro in new district with PAHS
     Next season will be a whole new experience for Marlin and Lady Marlin basketball players. The University Interscholastic League, the governing body for high school competition in Texas, has realigned basketball districts for 2012-2014, leaving the Marlins with only one of the four opponents they faced this year.

Little League try-outs set
     The Port Aransas Little League will hold try-outs at ( Port Aransas Community 5: Park on Feb. 13, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23. Players will try out according to their ages and gender. Young Marlins end with a win
     The Brundrett Middle School eighth-grade Marlins ended their year successfully with a 42-23 victory at Pettus on Monday, Feb. 6. Coach Brian Flack said although there was no seventh grade game on Feb. 6, both teams had successful years, putting together winning records (the eighth-graders’ victory put them at 6-2 in district).

Lady Marlins fall to Falls City squad
     The Lady Marlins followed their game plan, slowing Falls City down to a reasonable pace on the Port Aransas court and extending their time of possession in the game on Friday, Feb. 3. It just wasn’t enough to stop the Beaverettes, who used bench depth to hand the Lady Marlins a 35-50 loss.

Falls City JV stops Lady Marlins, 30-20
     The junior varsity put together a two-digit second quarter to tie Falls City at the half in Doyle Marek Gym on Friday, Feb. 3, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Beaverettes. The JV ladies lost, 20-30. It was a low-scoring game for both teams: Falls City led 7-2 at the end of the first quarter, but the 12-point second quarter brought Port Aransas to a 14-14 tie at the half.

Marlins close rivalry with win
     “You aren’t going to be seeing Falls City for a while,” coach Joe Kocurek told his Marlins before the Feb. 3 game against the Beavers in Port Aransas. “Let’s make sure we don’t have to remember our last meeting as a loss.”

JVs stop Beavers 42-31
     The junior varsity Marlins pulled off a 42-31 win against arch rivals Falls City on Friday, Feb. 3, largely because of the defense, said coach Kris Jones. “Our press created a lot of turnovers, and we shot free throws well, going nine of 14,” he said. “Our scoring touch went cold in the third quarter, but defensively we were tough all night.”
