Good care
     We want to compliment all the people who helped us when Omer became ill. We were treated not only professionally by Dr. Bruce Russell, the EMS here and the hospital staff in Corpus Christi, but also with caring and kindness. Our friends, our “condo family” and “church family” were quick to help us.

11th Street: Bring it on!
     A year ago this week we urged the city council to do 11th Street right the first time. Most Port Aransas residents and voters agreed with that sentiment and approved the full $6.4 million bond package to rebuild the heavily traveled street. This week (actually last Friday), the work began and the first dirt was moved in preparation for the project.

The President’s ‘social gospel’
     For 60 years the National Prayer Breakfast has been a nonpolitical event where speakers put aside their earthly biases and focus on a Higher Authority. Last Thursday, President Obama departed from that tradition to claim the endorsement of Jesus for raising taxes. It beat the endorsement of Mitt Romney by Donald Trump.

Senate hopefuls debate -- sort of
     The top four competitors for the Republican nomination to succeed Republican U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison agree that Barack Obama should be retired, along with his health plan. But they tried to distinguish themselves in a joint appearance Feb. 1 before the Texas Association of Business in Austin, including fielding questions about environmental regulations and endangered species.
