Walking the talk

Locker room chat turns game around; Lady Marlins win 35-28 over visitors

Sometimes, talking things out works.

It did for the Lady Marlins at halftime in the district home opener against Woodsboro on Tuesday, Jan. 10, said coach Stephanie Cowen.

The Lady Marlins won that game, 35-28, after talking about some offensive changes during the halftime break, Cowen said.

“I thought we played a great game defensively,” she said. “Even with the adjustments we made from our normal defensive rotations, our girls played outstanding on that end of the floor. Offensively, we were getting open looks, but our shots just weren’t falling. At halftime, we talked about making our defense into offense. We wanted to get steals and easy buckets to get us back in the game. It seemed to get us going and give us some confidence shooting the ball.”

The ladies showed sluggish scoring in the first half, going in to that locker room chat down 5-10. After the break, however, they posted quarters of 12 points and 13 points while holding the Lady Eagles to seven and six points respectively.
