Merry monarchs

Looking like earrings in the photo at left, monarch butterfly cocoons hang from the head of a sculpture in the garden at the home of Jane Krone on East Avenue B. (That’s Krone, peaking over the sculpture’s shoulder.) Krone said the caterpillars attached themselves in those spots by chance. She first noticed them on Wednesday, Dec. 7. A number of other cocoons are hanging around the garden, and it’s no wonder. Krone filled her garden with plants that butterflies like. In the photo at right, a monarch caterpillar chows down on a plant in Krone’s garden.
